Ivor Goodsite meets pupils from Bishop Loveday School 10-12-2012

Bishop Loveday School welcomed a special visitor to take part in their school assembly. Ivor Goodsite, a construction industry mascot attended the event to help Art Contracts Limited educate the children on safety in construction. The aim of the visit was to provide a fun and enjoyable atmosphere to highlight the dangers of playing on a construction site – therefore issuing an important community message. Ivor Goodsite assisted Mark Gregory, Operations Manager for Art Contracts, in demonstrating safety equipment and promoting a positive construction industry. Approximately 400 pupils took part in guessing the machinery and spotting the hazards, which formed part of the interactive presentation.

Pamela Wilson, Teacher said “the children absolutely loved it”. “Stressing the importance of Safety was the aim and it could not have been better achieved. The participation of Ivor Goodsite added fun to the subject and you could sense the excitement of the children”.

At the end of the presentation, Art Contracts Limited set the Bishop Loveday pupils with a competition to design a safety poster, using the knowledge from what they had just learnt. Adrian Trinder, Director of Art Contracts, said “the interaction from the children was fantastic. We are really pleased with the way it went and would like to thank Bishop Loveday School for their assistance in producing this event; this really is how the relationship of a contractor and their client should be”.

Ivor left the school in the knowledge that he had helped to leave a lasting impression with the children, and from the show of hands at the end, that they had all learnt something from the experience.

The message to all children is:
1. You should always be aware of construction sites around your neighbourhood and the dangers inside.
2. You should NEVER enter a building site without a responsible adult and the correct protective clothing.
3. You must always read and follow safety signs – they are there to keep YOU safe!

If you would like to know more about any building work in your area, you must make sure you ask a responsible adult to help you find out, instead of trying to find out yourself.
