Work begins on new classrooms 09-12-2011
Work has begun to build two new state-of-the-art classrooms at Bishop Loveday School costing a total of £440,000.
On Friday employees from Art Contracts Limited in Banbury arrived at the Bodicote primary school to start preparing the site for the extensive development.
The project, which is due to be finished in late spring next year, will create two new classrooms for Year Six pupils and move the students out of tired run-down temporary classroom cabins into state-of-the-art facilities with an ICT suite.
The development has been funded by a £400,000 grant from the diocese, with the school contributing the remaining £40,000. Headteacher Chris Woodward said: “Everyone has really pulled together to raise the money and it’s great to see the work beginning. We have raised about £38,000 of our £40,000 target since April and will be having one last push to get the extra money.
“We are really excited about the contractors coming in – they have been excellent and have worked within the school very well teaching the students about health and safety.
“We’re going to get rid of the cabins, which have no running water or toilets and are in a poor condition and replace them with these two new classrooms with bathrooms and an ICT area. We want to make these new facilities really super for our older students and a bit different from our other classrooms so they are a bit more office-like.”
Pupils, parents and staff have raised money for the project through a variety of fundraisers including garage sales, pocket money donations and dress-up days.
Adrian Trinder, director of Art Contracts Ltd, said: “We are very pleased to be able to provide our services for the benefit of our local community.
“The school sets very high standards and this project will provide the staff and children with a modern environment conducive for learning, which they fully deserve for their efforts in raising a percentage of the funding.”
